The City of Williamsburg has begun accepting applications for the COVID 19 Eviction Prevention Program.
The program aims to provide emergency payments of rent to prevent eviction and ensure housing stability for low- and moderate-income households that have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The COVID-19 Eviction Prevention Program application can be found at williamsburgva.gov/rentrelief. The program will continue until the program’s funds are depleted. When an applicant is approved for relief funds, the funds are paid directly to landlords.
The City received $270,000 to fund this program from the Williamsburg Health Foundation, part of a $1 million grant divided between the City, James City County and York County based on the size of each locality’s population and number of low-income households. The three localities worked together to create a common application.
“This program will go a long way in helping city residents at risk of eviction find some relief during this difficult time, and we hope to connect those seeking help with other services we offer that they may not be aware of,” said Wendy Evans, the City’s director of Human Services. “We are grateful to the Williamsburg Health Foundation for this generous support for our community.”
