Williamsburg, VA – In-person early voting for the governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general Democratic Party Primary races began last week, and City of Williamsburg voters can cast their ballots in the Voter Registrar’s Office.

To help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and to make voters feel safe casting their ballots, the City is continuing the curbside and drop box options offered during last fall’s General Election.

City voters can cast their ballots in-person at the Municipal Building, 401 Lafayette St., either curbside or inside the Registrar’s Office, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through June 5. The office will also be open two Saturdays: May 29 and June 5. The last day to early vote in person at the Voter Registrar’s Office is June 5.

The polls will be open on ElectionDay, June 8, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Those who choose to vote curbside should park in the designated spaces and call 757-220-6157. Someone from the Registrar’s Office will come outside to check IDs and issue a ballot.

Those who choose to vote inside will have their temperature checked before entering; face coverings and physical distancing are required. Only four people are allowed inside the Registrar’s Office at a time. Anyone who had a temperature of 100 degrees or higher will be asked to vote curbside.

To request an absentee ballot or register to vote, contact Tina Reitzel at 757-220-6157 or treitzel@williamsburgva.gov. To be eligible to vote in this primary, register to vote by May 17, 2021.

Absentee ballots will be mailed to those who have requested to vote by mail. Due to state legislation passed last year, voters are no longer required to have an approved reason to vote earlier than Election Day. Absentee ballots can be returned to a drop box outside the front doors of the Municipal Building or sent through the mail. Ballots sent through the mail must be postmarked by Election Day, June 8, 2021, and received no later than noon Friday June 11, 2021.

The Republican Party has opted to hold a convention on May 8 to select its candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general instead of a primary.
