NORFOLK, Va. — Writers from across Virginia and beyond will gather this August as The Muse Writers Center hosts its annual Muse Writers Conference, a two-day literary event designed to help aspiring and established writers sharpen their craft, connect with publishing professionals, and move their writing careers forward.
Scheduled for August 29–30, 2026, the conference offers an immersive experience featuring expert-led workshops, publishing panels, networking opportunities, and one-on-one meetings with literary agents and publishers.
Unlike larger conventions, The Muse Writers Conference intentionally limits attendance, creating an environment where meaningful conversations and personalized feedback become the centerpiece of the experience. Participants will gain practical insights into every stage of the publishing journey—from crafting compelling query letters and preparing manuscripts for submission to understanding marketing strategies, publishing contracts, and today's evolving publishing landscape.
Highlights of the conference include:
Professional panels featuring literary agents, editors, publishers, and bestselling authors
Individual pitch and consultation sessions with publishing professionals
Workshops focused on querying, manuscript preparation, marketing, and publishing strategies
Networking opportunities with fellow writers and industry experts
Author and vendor exhibits showcasing books, literary services, and writing resources
The conference also continues The Muse Writers Center's mission of strengthening the literary arts throughout Hampton Roads. Sponsorships and community support help fund scholarships, youth programming, and outreach initiatives that use writing as a tool for education, healing, and personal growth.
As one of the region's premier literary organizations, The Muse Writers Center has built a reputation for nurturing writers at every stage of their creative journey through classes, workshops, readings, and community events. The annual conference has become a cornerstone event for writers seeking professional guidance while building lasting relationships within the literary community.
Writers of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, memoir, and children's literature are encouraged to attend.
