Williamsburg, VA – Nominations are now being accepted for the Williamsburg Mace Bearer’s Award.
The Williamsburg Mace Bearer’s Award recognizes individuals or groups who have made a lasting,
positive impact on the City of Williamsburg community. This prestigious honor is the first and only
award given by the Williamsburg City Council to community members.
Jim Joseph, longtime president of the Neighborhood Council of Williamsburg, received the inaugural
award in December 2022. This is the first year the award will be open to nominations from the public.
“Dedicated, passionate, engaged citizens have been a hallmark of the City of Williamsburg for more
than 320 years, and the City embraces this new way to recognize their contributions,” Mayor Douglas
G. Pons said. “It was an honor to recognize the contributions of Jim Joseph last year, and we look
forward to bestowing this award on another deserving member of this great community.”
Recipients of the Williamsburg Mace Bearer’s Award have made significant contributions to the City
beyond what is expected from their employment or professional roles; demonstrated creative
leadership that has positively contributed to the cohesion and unity of the City community; and
contributed significantly to an initiative that has brought positive change and added value to the City
community.
