Hurrah is excited to announce our Spring Mainstage performance will be Disney’s Broadway Musical THE LITTLE MERMAID Jr.! This will be a Virginia Beach premier! Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID Jr. is a beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl," "Part of Your World" and a tall order of “Positoovity!”
Ariel will be played by Virginia Beach’s own AUBREY SWAIN who was our Junie B Jones last summer. You don’t want to miss her ‘swimming’ across the stage with her friends Flounder, Scuttle and Sebastian. Also the use of projections for our production of Moana Jr. was so successful that we will be using moving projection from designer Rick Frendt again in this production.
We are excited to announce that we will have our first SENSORY FRIENDLY performance as well for this production. For 38 years Hurrah has served families across Hampton Roads with access to family shows, and scholarships with our academy, we are proud to continue this tradition with this performance. A Friday morning matinee will be held for those families who prefer to see a Sensory Friendly performance of THE LITTLE MERMAID JR. This matinee is open to the public to purchase tickets and at this performance we will not use loud sounds or extreme lighting. We are working with local groups who specialize in assisting neurodivergent children and adults in order to make sure we are serving this community, all families deserve access to family entertainment.
We are so thankful to the Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission for making this show possible! With their support we can continue to offer some of the lowest ticket prices in Hampton Roads and provide all families with enriching and engaging performances to share together.
