Williamsburg, VA – The City of Williamsburg has promoted Lauri Springsteen as its new Building Official. Springsteen has worked for the City of Williamsburg for 19 years, most recently as the Assistant Building Official for the Planning & Codes Compliance Department.

“We are excited for Lauri and the community,” City Manager Andrew O. Trivette said. “Lauri started her career with the City as the building permit technician and worked her way through the process of certification in all the building inspector trades, including certification as a building official. Now with years of experience as an inspector, she has both the technical skill and the knowledge of our community to be a tremendous asset.”

The Building Official oversees the City’s Codes Compliance Division, which is responsible for the enforcement of building and safety ordinances in the community in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.

Springsteen started her government career with the City of Williamsburg as a building permit technician. Over her 19 years with the City, she has also served as Building Inspector and the Assistant Building Official. She is certified as a Building Official, Stormwater Inspector, and Erosion/Sediment Control Inspector. She is also a Master Code Professional, one of just over 800 individuals worldwide to achieve this certification.

“Becoming a Building Official has been a goal of mine for many years, and to be able to do it in the City of Williamsburg is a true honor,” Springsteen said. “I’m excited to continue working with my City colleagues and the community in this new role.”
