Today Spotlight News is excited to announce that applications are open for the first year of our scholarship program!

Thanks to a generous grant from the Norfolk Commission for the Arts, we are pleased to be able to present 3 Hampton Roads individuals with one $500 scholarship each. Scholarships are available for local individuals graduating high school or earning their GED, who plan to begin their course of study at technical school, community college, college or university in Hampton Roads in the fall of 2022.

Applicants will have until MARCH to interview a professional in their intended field of study, and write a 750-1,000 word essay, including a quote from said professional, and provide 1-2 original photos or pieces of original artwork supporting their essay. The essay will relate something about the Hampton Roads area to the subject or trade they plan to study. Examples may include the professional’s success in their field locally, nontraditional route to success, or involvement in community service.

Applicants should send their essay in a .docx file along with their original images by filling out this Google Form.

Winners and select honorable mentions will be published on SpotlightNews.press starting in April. We are very excited to be able to give back to our community by assisting local students with their future endeavors!

Again, a huge thank you to the Norfolk Commission for the Arts and to all of our patrons for helping make this program possible!
