The Virginia Symphony Orchestra, the Commonwealth’s preeminent professional symphony orchestra, will appear live in concert on Sunday, July 25, at 8pm for a free evening performance at Town Point Park along the Downtown Norfolk Waterfront.
Produced by Norfolk Festevents in partnership with the City of Norfolk and presented by The Perry Family Foundation and TowneBank, this year’s show, conducted by the world-renowned Morihiko Nakahara, features a wide variety of performances, including pieces from Mozart, Strauss, Rossini, Ponchielli, Williams, and many more.
Admission to the event is free and open to the public. Town Point Park opens at 6pm for pre-concert picnics with the show beginning at 8pm and concluding at 10pm. Gourmet artisan foods and beverages will be available for purchase.
One of Virginia’s most celebrated musical, educational and entrepreneurial arts organizations, the Virginia Symphony Orchestra is celebrating its 100th Anniversary season. Known for his charismatic presence on and off the podium, innovative and audience-friendly programming skills, and thoughtful interpretations of both standard and contemporary repertoire, Morihiko Nakahara (pictured right) is in his 14th season as Music Director of the South Carolina Philharmonic, and also serves as Director or Orchestral Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He recently completed a successful 18-year tenure as Resident Conductor of the Spokane Symphony Orchestra.
