Williamsburg, VA – City of Williamsburg residents and small-business owners who have previously received funds from the Municipal Utility Relief Program are now eligible to receive more relief.
The relief program assists people who are facing past-due water and sewer bills by providing direct assistance to customer accounts over 30 days in arrears during the covered period of March 1, 2020, to Nov. 1, 2021, due to COVID-19. The funds in this program can be used only to relieve past-due water and sewer bills; no other utility bills are eligible.
Since March 2020, the City of Williamsburg has waived penalties and paused disconnects for overdue water and sewer bills; penalties and disconnects will resume on Nov. 1, 2021.
The relief funding was previously awarded only once per household (for residential) or once per account holder and their successors (for nonresidential). A new deadline for applications has also been set; applications will now be accepted until Oct. 31, 2021, or until funds are exhausted. Intake certification forms can be found online or in the entryway of the Municipal Building, 401 Lafayette St.
The City is funding this program with the $92,027 in federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act money it received in December 2020.
